How a VTAP100-PRO reader works
The VTAP100-PRO-BW reader has two modes of operation:
-
Cloud mode where this VTAP reader communicates over Wi‑Fi with the VTAP Cloud service. In this case the VTAP Cloud platform becomes the place to monitor and manage the reader, and optionally to process tap data and drive the action in response to each tap. The reader still offers Bluetooth and optional input/output features.
-
Local mode where this VTAP reader behaves in the same way as more basic VTAP100 readers, but offers Bluetooth and input/output features. The reader is monitored and managed locally and the action in response to each tap is determined by the configuration file saved on the reader itself.
The VTAP100-PRO-POE reader communicates over Ethernet with the VTAP Cloud service. In this case the VTAP Cloud platform becomes the place to monitor and manage the reader, and optionally to process tap data and drive the action in response to each tap. The reader still offers optional input/output features.
The VTAP100-PRO-BW reader also has a 2.4GHz Bluetooth v4.2 and BLE interface that can be used to send mobile pass payloads as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) keyboard emulation or over a BLE GATT server interface to a nearby host. If a VTAP Cloud connection is not required, the VTAP100‑PRO‑BW reader can be used in Local mode, as a Bluetooth host device, to receive barcode or QR scanner inputs.
With the addition of a specific feature license, the VTAP100-PRO-BW reader can also be configured to read mobile driver's licenses over Bluetooth, although only one Bluetooth mode can be used at any one time.
Note: The VTAP PRO readers may be pre‑configured, to suit our various customers and partners, so that demonstration units are ready to test. In some cases they are configured to work with our demonstration mobile pass platform, OriginPass, and in other cases they may be set up to use the customer's own passes and/or platform APIs.
