VTAP100 Change Notice - v5 Hardware - PCN00001

Our latest hardware version is v5. Available from March 2023

Product(s) affected: VTAP100‑OEM, VTAP100‑USB‑CC, VTAP100‑PAC‑W‑CC, VTAP100‑PAC‑485‑CC

Change: A different processor is used. Functionality and features are unchanged.

Reason for change: The original processor is no longer available.

Impact:

  • The mass storage emulation capacity is larger.

  • When a firmware update is required, the firmware file for VTAP100 hardware revision v5 and above will be called vtapware.dat rather than firmware.dat.

Earlier hardware (VTAP100 v2, v3 or v4) cannot use firmware files called vtapware.dat.

  • From VTAP100 v5 onwards the FCC identifier is changed from 2A282‑VTAP100 to 2A282‑VTAP100G2. To maintain the FCC approval for any VTAP100 v5 OEM module integrated into a host system, that host equipment must be labelled 'Contains FCC ID: 2A282‑VTAP100G2'.

How do I tell if I have a VTAP100 board with the latest processor?

  • Option 1: Connect your VTAP reader to a PC and check the BOOT.TXT file:

    • If you navigate to the VTAP reader in the computer's file system. It will appear as an attached mass storage device and list the files contained, including the BOOT.TXT file.

    • Inspecting BOOT.TXT you will find a number next to the word Hardware: such as v5.
This is the hardware version in use. If the hardware version is 5 or above, this VTAP reader has the latest VTAP processor.

  • Option 2: Over a serial connection to the VTAP reader, send the ?b command, which will return the BOOT.TXT information. If the hardware version is 5 or above, this VTAP reader has the latest VTAP processor.

  • Option 3: Open the case (if any) and check the printing on the PCB, if it reads "VTAP100-GEN2-PCB-Rev2 © 2022 DOT ORIGIN" then this VTAP reader has the latest VTAP processor.
